Start With a Morning Plan!

Is it time to hit the refresh button?

When it comes to maintaining your health, sometimes ‘life happens’ despite our best intentions. Summer vacations, poor sleep, eating out, and poor planning can wreak havoc on your goals to lose weight, improve your endurance or change your diet. Once we blow it, the temptation to make an excuse about why we’ll do better tomorrow becomes easier and easier. Before you know it, six months have come and gone and we’re no closer to meeting our goals than we were in the beginning.

The old adage ‘If you fail to plan, you plan to fail’ is so predictably true, especially when it comes to outlining and strategizing our health goals and outcomes. One of the best ways to lock in a winning plan is to create a morning schedule or ritual. This can help put a framework around the things that will set your day up for success and move you closer to your most important health goals. Depending on your individual priorities, a well-planned morning schedule might look something like this:

6:00am – 6:10am – Get up and prepare to exercise for 20 minutes

6:10am – 6:30am – Interval exercise

6:30am – 6:50am – Prepare a morning smoothie containing adequate protein, fat and a few veggies or fruits and consume while checking social media or reading your morning motivation

6:50am – 7:00am – Meditate for 10 minutes using your preferred app (check out Headspace, one of our favorites!)

7:00am – 8:00am – Shower, dress and get ready for the day

This kind of schedule can be modified for certain days of the week or as individual needs dictate but the most important thing is to get it written down and then hold yourself accountable. Before long, you’ll have created a morning habit that becomes much easier to stick to. Building structure around your most important health goals will help ensure they become part of your daily routine and before long, you’ll start reaping the benefits!
